Open Forum Held on Reorganization Before we broke for the Thanksgiving holiday, Dean Stohler held three open forums with faculty and staff to explain and discuss the new Clinical Operations Board. The reorganization is planned for January 2005. If you were unable to attend, please see the FAQs below, which were distributed at the meetings: CLINICAL REORGANIZATION FAQs Q: Why reorganize? A: The new structure will help identify and address areas that will allow us to deliver optimal patient care, provide an exceptional framework for students, and facilitate an ideal work environment for clinic staff. Q: Will this change eliminate positions? A: No. This reorganization is a positive change, and is not designed to eliminate any positions. It is more likely that we will have to add more staff in the future. Q: How will job descriptions change? A: Descriptions will not change per se, but you will have a clearer understanding of why you are doing your job and have a better sense of how your job relates to the needs of our patients. Q: When will the change occur? A: In January, we will begin the year with our new Clinical Board of Directors. Q: Who is on the board? A: Our board consists of: Harry Goodman (Chair and Executive Director of Community Programs); Lou DePaola (Executive Director of Biosafety/Continuous Quality Improvement); Roger Eldridge (Executive Director of Special Patient Programs); George Williams (Executive Director of General Practice Programs); and David George (Executive Director of Clinical Affairs). Q: Will there be more changes in the future? A: The Dental School is constantly seeking to improve the way we educate our students, serve our patients, and provide a much more rewarding environment for staff and faculty. Therefore, you should look forward to more exciting, positive changes in the future. Q: What are my avenues for asking questions or sending feedback? A: Aside from members of the board, clinic managers are available and our editorial director can facilitate your communications needs. We also plan to have suggestion boxes available. --Regina L.
