Troy Smith, Kyle Marshall, and Clint Norby will actually be making the presentations. Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Faculty Collaborate in Case-Based Conferences Submitted by Fran Addison Biomedical Sciences is moving forward with some of the suggestions developed at both the department and school retreats held on Oct. 9 and Oct. 20, 2005, i.e., to increase the number of Case-Based Conferences (CBC) and to involve the interaction of both basic science and clinical faculty in the CBC. Dr. Robert Bennett contacted some of the clinical faculty and has enticed 15 clinicians into attending at least one CBC this spring. Our goal is to obtain a commitment from the clinical faculty that they will participate in this enriching opportunity either as collaborators and/or participate in a case. Clinical faculty will be invited to attend the 12-1p.m. briefing session on Tuesdays in Room 5-E-14 and/or the 4 p.m. CBC on Wednesdays in Room 2-D-21 during the spring semester. Drs. Karen Faraone, Jack Spitznagel, and William Leboe have already collaborated on the design of a case. Drs. Ron Dubner, Mark Shirtliff, Norbert Myslinski, and Bob Nauman are volunteering to contact the clinical faculty interested in becoming involved in the CBC. Postdoctoral fellows and graduate students will also participate in this enrichment opportunity. Mentors of postdoctoral fellows and the BMS Graduate Program Director have already been contacted and requested to identify those individuals interested in participating in the CBC. The postdocs and graduate students will, at first, observe the CBC and later become more deeply involved. The process for becoming involved will be similar to that available to the clinical faculty. Biomedical Sciences faculty experienced with the CBC will serve as role models for the clinical faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students. |
